The 2021 North America Pro Series kicked off this past weekend! Six teams fought head to head in a series of Crew Battles, 2v2s, and 1v1 Tiebreakers. While the results may look to be what was expected number-wise, the way the match-ups played out were anything but expected.

Team Northeast made quick work of Team West, beating them in both the Crew Battles and 2v2s. Team Midwest revealed their strategy straight away; Boomie, their anchor, lead the charge in the crew battles and consistently took five to seven stocks every game.
Team Canada proved they had what it takes to win in a best-of-five 2v2 showdown, but Boomie came back with a vengeance and won the tiebreaker to give Midwest their first victory.
Team South started out strong in the crew battle against MDVA, but Remmy and Cody Travis held the line when it came time for the 2v2 match-up. Sting Ray and Ethan fought to game three in an incredibly close tiebreaker where Sting Ray secured victory with a well placed Ragnir side-signature.
Team Canada gave Team Northeast their first mid-match defeat of the season, taking them down in 2v2s and bringing their match to a 1v1 tiebreaker. Cosolix nearly brought it to a game three, but at the very end Sandstorm landed a cannon down-light neutral-air to seal the deal. Team Midwest made quick work of Team South, dropping only a single game during the 2v2 best-of-five.
The crazy match-up of the weekend was Team MDVA versus Team West! Team West employed an interesting strategy of changing up their 2v2 team from day one to day two, a decision that had to be made before any of the matches actually started. This allowed Team West to have a dominant team in the crew battle and scored them a win 2-1. Their decision softened their 2v2 team however, and Team MDVA took advantage of this and made quick work of them.
All that was left between the two teams was the 1v1 tiebreaker. Sting Ray, MDVA’s tried and true anchor, performed far better than he did in the crew battle and stopped Java in his tracks 2-0, securing MDVA their second victory.
That’s it for the first weekend of the 2021 North American Pro Series! Tune in this weekend for days three and four and find out who remains undefeated and who starts making some crazy upsets.
